Open Question: Why are americans so hard on mexicans?

I'm like a 5th generation mexican american and I don't like being american. There are so many americans who say bad things about Mexicans because so many they immigrate but my all my family that came here came legally (my great great great grandparents who also fought for this country). I was born in Arizona and have also lived in Texas and Washington (state) and have met too many ignorant people. Whats the deal with so many white people these days? (I'm sorry but its who I here the most ignorant things from) They always talk about mexicans like they know them and if they see mexicans doing something good and not breaking the law but just being normal people that goes unnoticed because I always only hear the bad things that mexicans do. Sometimes I wish I wasn't american and would have been born somewhere where people don't criticize as a hobby.
